The Emory University Swimming and Diving teams closed out the regular season this weekend, posting 10 NCAA B Cut times at the Royal Open on the campus of Queens University in Charlotte, NC. There was no team scoring at the meet.
Six of the 10 NCAA B Cuts were swam on the women’s side. On Friday, junior Ava Salmi touched at 2:03.79 to win the event while sophomore Hannah Lally placed second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:03.63 – prelims).
On Saturday, the Eagles added four more NCAA qualifying marks including two in event victories. Freshman Mia Morrell won the 400 IM in a time of 4:29.77 while classmate Maria Kyle won the 100 Fly at 56.33. Lally added another NCAA qualifying standard in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:18.87 in preliminaries and junior Sia Beasley in the 100 Backstroke, finishing third at 56.25.
On the men’s side, freshmen Ton Kiangsiri and Evan Brock registered NCAA B Cut times on Friday evening. Brock finished second in the 200 Butterfly at 1:51.64 with Kiangsiri placing fourth in the 100 Breaststroke at 56.37.
The men closed out the meet with two more NCAA B Cuts on Saturday from sophomore Matt Varraveto and junior John Copses. Varraveto turned in a time of 4:04.12 during preliminaries of the 400 IM with Copses touching at 2:03.94 in the finals of the 200 Breaststroke. Both swimmers placed second in the respective events.
Qualifying Emory swimmers will now turn their attention to next month’s NCAA Division III Championships which will be held in Houston, TX from March 15th-18th. Stay tuned to emoryathletics.com for more information regarding the meet.
