Emory Swimming & Diving Cruises Past Birmingham-Southern, 173-111

The Emory University Swimming and Diving team earned their first dual meet victory of the season Saturday afternoon, topping Birmingham-Southern by a score of 173-111 at the Madeleine Jude Aquatic Center in Atlanta. The Eagles swept the meet, winning all 16 events against the Panthers.

Junior Julia Durmer led the Eagles at the meet, collecting a team-best three individual events wins. Durmer touched first in the 1000 Freestyle (10:36.15), 200 Breaststroke (2:27.19) and in the 200 IM (2:11.01).

Senior Cindy Cheng added a pair of individual wins, taking first in the 200 Freestyle (1:54.13) and in the 200 Backstroke (2:04.71).

Adding victories for the Eagles were senior Sia Beasley in the 100 Backstroke (58.91), junior Hannah Lally in the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.33), sophomore Maria Turcan in the 200 Fly (2:12.03), junior Meg Taylor in the 50 Freestyle (24.35), freshman Lucy Daro in the 100 Freestyle (53.09), senior Ming Ong in the 500 Freestyle (5:11.17) and freshman Rachel Song in the 100 Fly (59.52).

Emory also took first place in both diving events with sophomore Madeline Lutwyche posting the lone NCAA B Cut on the afternoon in the 1-meter, 6-dives event (257.55) and senior Natalie Bauer earning 237.60 points in the 3-meter, 6-dives event.

Rounding out Emory wins on Saturday were the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay teams. The 200 Medley Relay consisting of Beasley, Taylor, junior Ashley Daniels and sophomore Maria Kyle touched with a time of 1:49.50 to begin the meet with the 200 Free Relay of Taylor, juniors Hannah Baratz, Fiona Muir and freshman Bethany Seagraves closing out the meet in a time of 1:38.72.

The Eagles return to the pool the weekend of November 3rd and 4th as Emory hosts Wingate, Catawba and Georgia Southern for a two-day meet.
