10 First Place Finishes Paves Way for Women's Swimming & Diving over Florida Southern, 140-65

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team claimed event wins in all but one event on Friday as the Eagles downed Division II's Florida Southern College, 140-65, in Lakeland, FL.

Emory's senior trio of Cindy Cheng, Ming Ong and Rebecca Upton paced the Eagles' efforts in the pool on the afternoon, with all three earning a pair of individual victories. Cheng took top honors in the 200 Freestyle (1:53.96) and 200 Backstroke (2:04.97), Ong in the 200 IM (2:08.79) and 500 Freestyle (5:10,93 and Upton in the 1,000 Freestyle (10:42.89) and 200 Butterfly (2:09.65).

Adding solo wins for the Eagles were junior Fiona Muir in the 50 Freestyle (25.04) and freshman Lucy Daro in the 100 Freestyle (53.85). Junior Ashley Daniels led Emory in the 200 Breaststroke, placing second at 2:24.03.

In addition to the eight individual triumphs, the Eagles swept both relay events in the 400 Medley and 200 Freestyle. In the 400 Medley, Cheng, Daniels, Daro and sophomore Caroline Olson posted a time of 3:54.96 and in the 200 Free, Muir, Daro, Ong and junior Meg Taylor touched at 1:37.90.

Emory returns to action next Saturday with a tri-meet in Cleveland, MS against West Florida and Delta State. The tri-meet is slated to begin at 12:00 PM EST.
