Women's Swimming & Diving Total Four Event Wins on Day One of Emory Invitational

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team got off to a strong start to open the 2018 Emory Invitational, totaling 324 points on the strength of four event wins Friday night. After day one, the Eagles lead Wingate (280), Carson-Newman (179) and Catawba (104) in the team standings.

Senior Fiona Muir and freshman Allie Dixon claimed individual event wins for the Eagles while Muir was also part of both relay victories on the evening. Muir took first in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.38 and helped Emory to wins in both the 200 Free Relay (1:37.24) with senior Meg Taylor and sophomores Christy Taylor and Lucy Daro and in the 400 Medley Relay with Daro and freshmen Gaige Elms and Edie Bates. Dixon captured the event win in the 200 Butterfly for the Eagles, winning with a mark of 2:07.23.

Emory added 10 top-three finishes on day one of competition to lead them to the 44 point advantage: senior Julia Durmer (2nd, 2:09, 06) and freshman Clio Hancock (3rd, 2:09.42) in the 200 IM, junior Maria Turcanu in both the 500 Freestyle (2nd, 5:08.77) and 200 Butterfly (2nd, 2:08.27), freshman Josie Uerling (3rd, 5:11.02) in the 500 Free, Bates (2nd, 1:06.61) in the 100 Breaststroke, Elms (2nd, 2:08.66) in the 200 Backstroke, M. Taylor (2nd, 52.89) and Daro (3rd, 52.91) in the 100 Freestyle.

The Eagles close out their home invitational Saturday morning with day two of competition featuring the 200 Medley Relay, 1,650 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 400 IM and the 400 Freestyle Relay. Action begins at 11:00 AM inside the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center at the Woodruff PE Center.
