Women's Swimming & Diving Sits in Third After Day One of Denison Invite

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team opened the Denison University Invitational on Thursday, racking up one event win and 10 NCAA B Cuts to finish the day in third place in the team standings. Through one day of action, the Eagles recorded 557.5 points, trailing only host Denison (756 points) and Eastern Michigan (609.5).

Senior Fiona Muir logged the lone event victory for the Eagles on the evening, taking first against classmate Meg Taylor in the 50 Freestyle. Muir finished in a winning, NCAA qualifying mark of 22.98 while Taylor touched second with a B cut of 23.29. Senior Hannah Lally added a B cut in the event, registering a time of 23.57 to win the B final, placing 10th overall.

Junior Maria Turcanu and freshman Clio Hancock both recorded B cuts in third place efforts as Turcanu took bronze in the 500 Freestyle at 4:56.16 and Hancock in the 200 IM at 2:04.12. Senior Ashley Daniels added a qualifying time for the Eagles in the 200 IM, finishing fourth at 2:05.00.

Emory saw four NCAA B Cuts in the two relay final races on Thursday. In the 200 Free Relay, the A group of Muir, Lally, M. Taylor and sophomore Lucy Daro took second with a time of 1:33.02 while the B team of sophomores Grace Snyder, Christy Taylor and freshmen Zoe Walker and Edie Bates placed fifth in a time of 1:35.51. In the final event of the night, the 400 Medley Relay, the Eagles saw Snyder, Bates, Daro and Muir finish fourth with a mark of 3:45.70 while M. Taylor, C. Taylor, Daniels and sophomore Bethany Seagraves took sixth at 3:50.47.

The Denison Invitational continues on Friday with the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay and the men's 1-meter dive.
