Women's Swimming & Diving Splits Tri-Meet Against West Florida and Delta State

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving program completed a tri-meet against the University of West Florida and Delta State University in Pensacola, Florida Saturday morning, defeating the Argonauts 189-105 and falling to the Lady Statesmen 172-125.

Out of the 14 swimming events contested at the meet, the Eagles captured three victories to contribute to the split. Senior Fiona Muir and freshman Clio Hancock tallied solo wins with Muir touching first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.59 and Hancock winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:32.79. Muir added a win as part of the 200 Freestyle Relay, teaming with classmate Meg Taylor and sophomores Lucy Daro and Christy Taylor to post a mark of 1:37.30.

Muir and Hancock added top-three finishes as the Eagles as a team totaled 15 individual top-three showings. Muir took third in the 100 Free at 53.46 while Hancock touched second in the 100 Fly at 2:08.16 and was third in the 500 Free, finishing in a time of 5:13.65.

Adding second place efforts on Saturday was senior Julia Durmer in both the 1000 Free (10:36.07) and 400 II (4:32.93), M. Taylor in the 50 Free (24.68), sophomore Bethany Seagraves in the 200 Back (2:09.70), freshman Edie Bates in the 200 Breast (2:23.60) and the 200 Medley Relay of Bates, Daro, M. Taylor and junior Caroline Olson (1:48.29).

The Eagles will be back in the pool next Saturday with a dual meet next Saturday, January, 26th against Division III foe Centre College, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Woodruff PE Center. Prior to the start of the meet, Emory will honor its senior class with a special ceremony.
