Women's Swimming & Diving Sails Past Centre on Senior Day

The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving program celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon with a takedown of Centre College at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, GA.

The Eagles swept the meet, winning all 16 events contested on the afternoon, to defeat the Colonels 156-95. Prior to the start of the meet the Eagles honored its entire 15-member senior class of Hannah Baratz, Zachary Chen, Tyler Curran, Ashley Daniels, Julia Durmer, Thomas Gordon, Alex Kohlman, Trey Kolleck, Anya Koné, Hannah Lally, Patrick Leonard, Fiona Muir, Matt Rogers, Meg Taylor and Matt Varraveto with a special on-deck ceremony.

Durmer paced the women at the meet, taking first in three solo events as won the 1000 Free (10:25.62), 200 Breast (2:24.79) and 200 IM (2:09.69). Muir and sophomore Lucy Daro were also collected wins in multiple events with Muir touching first in both the 50 Free (24.40) and 100 Fly (58.49) while Daro was first in the 100 Back (58.15) and 500 Free (5:13.89).

Other individual event winners for the Eagles on Saturday were Daniels in the 100 Breast (1:06.76), junior Maria Turcanu in the 200 Fly (2:08.53), sophomore Christy Taylor in the 100 Free (53.85) and freshman Gaige Elms in the 200 Back (2:06.85).

In addition to the 14 solo victories, Emory captured both relay events with the 200 Medley Relay team of Baratz, Koné, freshman Zoe Walker and junior Maria Kyle posting a time of 1:47.82 and the 400 Freestyle Relay quartet of M. Taylor, Kyle, Hancock and freshman Taylor Leone registering a winning mark of 3:34.71.

The Eagles continue dual meet action next Saturday, February 2nd with a matchup against the University of Georgia. Events begin at 11:00 AM in Athens, GA.
