Emory's Julia Durmer Recipient Of Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Former Emory University women's swimming standout Julia Durmer (Atlanta, GA/St. Pius HS) has been named a winter recipient of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, bestowed upon student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, while also serving as leaders in the community.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, a $10,000 award to be applied toward the graduate degree program of Durmer's choice, is awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, and are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

Emory has been awarded 115 postgraduate scholarships over the school's history, and its 98 since 2000 is second only to Stanford University for the highest total by any NCAA member.

A three-year member of the swimming and diving program, Durmer capped off her time with team by helping the Eagles to their 10th consecutive NCAA national championship this past March.  At the national meet, Durmer finished as the national runner-up in the 1,650 Freestyle, earned an additional All-America honor with a fifth-place effort in the 400 IM, and was an honorable mention All-American with a 10th place showing in the 200 IM.

Over the course of her three seasons with the Eagles, Durmer  was a six-time All-American, two-time All-America honorable mention, seven-time UAA champion, and in 2017, she captured the 1,650 Freestyle national championship, becoming just the fourth Emory performer ever to win the event.

Away from the pool, Julia earned academic recognition by being named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American in 2018 and was a four-time member of the Emory University Dean's List.

Durmer, who graduated earlier this week as a Human Health major, was nominated for the Postgraduate Scholarship with a 3.88 grade-point average.
