Jon Howell Named As Inductee To Georgia Aquatic Hall Of Fame

Emory University Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Coach Jon Howell has been named as one of five inductees to the 2019 Class of the Georgia Aquatic Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 24th at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

Name to his current post in the summer of 1998, Coach Howell has transformed the program into a national powerhouse in his 21 years with the Eagles.

During his tutelage, Howell has seen 52 individual and 44 relay national champions and an incredible 1,173 All-America certificates awarded to Emory swimmers. He has coached three National Division III Swimmer of the Year winners in Liz Horvat in 2009, Andrew Wilson in both 2015 and 2017 and Oliver Smith in 2018. In addition, he has mentored 22 conference swimmers of the year, eight conference divers of the year, 18 conference rookies of the year and has led both the men's and women's teams to University Athletic Association titles in each of his 21 seasons.

In 2019, Emory saw its women's team win their 10th consecutive NCAA Division III national championship while the men's side recorded their 20th consecutive top-5 finish (includes the 2017 national title).  Howell has been named the Division III Coach of the Year for women six times and for men one time, winning both awards in 2017.  In 2015, the College Swim Coaches Association of America awarded Jon the National College and Scholastic Swimming Trophy.
