Swimming & Diving Hosts Centre Saturday on Senior Day

The Emory University Swimming and Diving programs return to the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center this Saturday, January 26th, with a dual meet against Centre College, beginning at 11:00 AM.

Prior to the start of the meet, the Eagles will honor its 15-member senior class of Hannah Baratz, Zachary Chen, Tyler Curran, Ashley Daniels, Julia Durmer, Thomas Gordon, Alex Kohlman, Trey Kolleck, Anya Koné, Hannah Lally, Patrick Leonard, Fiona Muir, Matt Rogers, Meg Taylor and Matt Varraveto with a special on-deck ceremony. Heading down the home stretch of the 2018-19 season, several swimmers boast individual marks that rank among the very best times in the Division III ranks including a few national leading marks. On the women’s side, Muir paces the Eagles with three DIII-leading times, out-racing the country in the 50 Free (22.98), 100 Free (49.50) as well as the 200 Free (1:48.51). Junior Maria Turcanu and freshman Clio Hancock also check in with nation-leading times with Turcanu leading the country with her 200 Fly mark of 2:07.22 and Hancock in the 400 IM at 4:17.06.

Other women’s times placing inside the nation’s top-eight heading into Saturday include Taylor in both the 50 Free (T-3rd, 23.29) and 100 Free (4th, 50.56), Turcanu in the 500 Free (4th, 4:56.16), Daniels in the 200 Breast (3rd, 2:16.35) and 100 Breast (6th, 1:02.91), freshman Gaige Elms in the 200 Back (3rd, 2:00.06), sophomore Lucy Daro in the 100 Fly (3rd, 55.28) and 100 Free (7th, 50.99), Hancock in the 200 Fly (5th, 2:03.51) and 200 IM (7th, 2:03.68), junior Maria Kyle in the 100 Fly (T-6th, 55.93) and 200 Fly (7th, 2:04.27) and freshmen Edie Bates in the 100 Breast (8th, 1:03.50) and Josie Uerling in the 400 IM (8th, 4:26.87).

For the Emory men, the Eagles lay claim to a trio of national top times with Kolleck in the 100 Free (43.81), freshman Zach Lorson in the 400 IM (3:51.86) and freshman Jason Hamilton in the 200 Breast (1:59.59). To go along with their top DIII marks, Kolleck ranks fourth in the 50 Free at 20.18 while Lorson is inside the top-10 in three addition events, holding down the second spot in both the 1000 Free (9:24.65) and 1650 Free (15:33.55) and ranks 10th in the 200 IM (1:50.69). Hamilton, meanwhile, is also positioned 10th with his time of 3:56.05 in the 400 IM.

In addition, the men’s team has Rogers checking in at sixth in the 200 Back (1:46.83), junior Sage Ono (7th, 48.92) and freshman Colin LaFave (9th, 49.10) in the 100 Back, Chen in the 200 IM (8th, 1:50.38) and sophomore Kellen Stillman in the 200 Free (9th, 1:38.93) as other times inside the top-10 nationally.

Emory currently ranks third in both the men’s and women’s top-25 polls published monthly by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America.
