Emory University senior swimmer Fiona Muir and freshman diver Lucas Bumgarner were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances at the 2019 UAA Swimming & Diving Championships this past weekend in Chicago, IL.
Muir was named the UAA Swimmer of the Year following a superb championship meet. Muir became the first woman in UAA history to win the 100 Freestyle four straight years, doing so on Saturday in a UAA record time of 50.12. She recorded another UAA Record on Friday as she captured the 200 Freestyle title with a winning time of 1:48.70 and added a second place effort in the 50 Freestyle on Thursday, touching at 23.44. In addition to the individual finishes, Muir was a member of four relay titles: 400 Medley (3:44.97), 200 Freestyle (1:33.04), 800 Freestyle (7:27.54) and 400 Freestyle (3:23.27).
Bumgarner became the first Emory male diver to be named the UAA Diver of the Year after earning All-UAA honors in both diving events at the 2019 conference championships including the 3-meter title with his school record score of 576.15. He placed 2nd in the 1-meter with a career-high mark of 512.60.
Emory gears up for the home stretch of the season with the Midwest Invitational this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
