Emory Swimming Opens Season with Dual-Meet at Queens University of Charlotte

The Emory University swimming and diving programs officially opened the 2019-20 season Saturday morning, competing in the swim-only dual meet at the Queens University of Charlotte.

The Eagles collected a total of four event wins at the meet against the reigning Division II champion Royals with Queens winning 164-98 on the women’s side and 160-102 on the men’s side.

For the Emory women, sophomore Clio Hancock and freshman Savannah Sowards notched event wins for the Eagles with Sowards posting a time of 2:03.52 to win the 200 Backstroke and in the 500 Freestyle, Hancock toughed with a winning mark of 5:05.98. In addition, the women tallied seven additional second place efforts across the 14 events.

In the men’s portion of the meet, sophomore Lawrence Redmond and freshman Nicholas Goudie highlighted the Eagles’ performances with Redmond winning the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:52.31 and Goudie taking top honors in the 50 Freestyle at 20.95. The men added 11 second place showings in the 14 events contested.

The Eagles are back in the pool next Saturday, October 26th with a dual meet in Atlanta against Birmingham-Southern at 1:00 PM.
