Swimming & Diving Trio Earn UAA Athlete of the Week Awards

Emory University sophomores Clio Hancock, Lucas Bumgarner and freshman Nicholas Goudie from the swimming and diving programs were honored by the University Athletic Association Monday afternoon by being named Athletes of Week. It is the second time for all three Eagles that have been bestowed with the weekly conference honor.

Goudie was part of five event victories at the Emory Fall Invitational as the Eagles edged out Wingate and Carson-Newman. Goudie was an individual winner in both the 50 Free (20.80), 100 Free (46.04) and three relays: 200 FR (1:23.66), 200 MR (1:33.05) and 400 FR (3:05.91). His 50 Free mark is the fastest among the Division III ranks so far this season.

Hancock won a team-leading three events and recorded a pair of NCAA B Cuts helping the Eagles to a team win at their home invitational. Hancock was an event winner in the 400 IM (4:24.84 - NCAA B Cut), 200 Fly (2:05.22 - NCAA B Cut) and 200 IM (2:05.61) and added a 4th place showing in the 400 Medley Relay (3:59.78), 5th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:49.61) and was fifth in the 200 Breast (2:26.76).

Bumgarner turned in another record-setting performance on Friday, setting a new Emory record in the 1-meter, 11-dives event with his NCAA qualifying score of 552.83 at the Invitational, breaking the previous top mark that held for nearly 30 years. His score of 552.83 is the highest by a Division III diver in the event so far this season.

The Eagles return to the pool December 5th – 7th with the Denison and SCAD Invitationals.
