SIX EAGLES COLLECT ALL AMERICA HONORS
The Emory women's tennis team continues to collect awards after winning its fourth consecutive national championship and fifth overall. Linda Tien and Richelle Marasigan received All-America honors for singles and doubles, while Indu Anand and Jamie Chan were honored for doubles.
This marks the second year in a row for receiving All-America honors for Chan and Tien. This is also the fifth year in a row that Emory has placed four players on the All-America team.
Tien finished the year with a singles record of 21-7, competing in the one and two singles positions. She led the team in victories for the year, while going 4-0 during the NCAA tournament at the No. 2 position.
In doubles play Tien finished the season with a record of 17-8. She teamed with Marasigan in the NCAA tournament for a 3-2 record in doubles play at the No. 1 position.
Marasigan competed mainly at the No. 1 position, as well as spending time at No. 2 and 3 singles. She compiled a record of 15-12 for the year, while going 2-2 at No. 1 singles in the NCAA tournament.
Anand and Chan turned in a solid performance in doubles play to earn national recognition. They finished the year 7-1 while together in No. 2 doubles. In Emory's five NCAA tournament matches, the two finished a perfect 5-0.
Samantha Shapiro (doubles) and Serena Burkard (singles) were
also named to the All-America team based on their performances at
the ITA South Region Championships.
Emory won its fourth consecutive national title with a 5-1 win over
previously unbeaten and top-ranked Washington & Lee University
(Va.). The Eagles finished the season with a record of 19-6.
EAGLES WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT NATIONAL TITLE
(May 19) The dynasty continues. The Emory women's tennis team won their fourth consecutive NCAA Division III national championship on Friday when they beat top-ranked Washington & Lee University (Va.) by a score of 5-1.
The national championship is the program's fifth overall, with titles coming in 1996 and 2003 to present. It was also Emory's second championship of the day. Earlier on Friday the men's team claimed the championship. This marked the second time in school history both squads have won national championships in the same year (2003).
The Eagles' started the match off strong by winning all three doubles points. Samantha Shapiro and Cristina Arellano got things going at No. 3 doubles with a win over Rebecca Timmis and Leah Weston 8-2. Jamie Chan and Indu Anand responded with a win at the two position over Katie Tabb and Ginny Wortham 8-6.
Linda Tien and Richelle Marasigan completed the sweep with a grueling 9-7 win over Emily Applegate and Kristen McClung at No. 1.
After a long rain delay, singles play began with W&L picking up their lone win when Applegate defeated Marasigan 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, cutting the lead to 3-1.
From there the Eagles got straight set wins from Arellano and Tien. Arellano defeated Kelly Will at No. 6 6-1, 6-2, while Tien took down Tabb 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Matches not completed were Chan-Wortham at No. 3, Anand-McClung at No. 4 and Shapiro-Weston at No. 5.
With the win, Emory finishes the year 19-6 overall.
EAGLES ADVANCE TO NCAA FINAL
(May 18) The fifth-ranked Emory women's tennis team will look to defend its three consecutive NCAA Division III national championships on Friday when it faces top-ranked Washington & Lee University (Va.). Emory defeated Trinity University (Texas) in the semifinals by a score of 5-1 to advance.
Emory avenged a mid-season loss to Trinity and will look to do the same when it faces Washington & Lee in Friday's final.
Emory jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the contest. Linda Tien and Richelle Marasigan lost to Laura Steinmetz and Hayley Dittus at No. 1 doubles 8-6 to give Trinity an early lead.
From there the Samantha Shapiro and Cristina Arellano beat Virginia Fraser and Leigh Pankonien at No. 3 doubles 8-4 and Jamie Chan and Indu Anand took down Alicia Hunt and Cayleigh Simpson 8-6 in the No. 2 position.
In singles action Emory got victories from Anand, Shapiro and Arellano to get the win with all three matches going in straight sets.
Anand defeated Simpson at No. 4 6-1, 6-1, while Shapiro swept Fraser 6-2, 6-1. Arellano was the deciding match as she defeated Pankonien 6-2, 6-2.
Matches not completed were Marasigan-Steinmetz at No. 1, Tien-Hunt at No. 2 and Chan-Dittus at No. 3.
Tomorrow's match will mark Emory's sixth appearance in the championship match. The Eagles stand 4-1 in championship matches. The blue and gold has won titles in 1996, 2003, 2004 and 2005. They finished runner-up in 2002.
Emory's match with Washington & Lee is set for 2:00 p.m. PST.
EMORY DEFEATS GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS 5-1
(May 17) The fifth-ranked Emory women's tennis team advanced into the semifinals of the NCAA Division III tennis tournament with a 5-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) on Wednesday. The three-time defending national champions now face Trinity University (Texas).
In doubles action Emory won two of three matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Jamie Chan and Indu Anand won at No. 2 doubles over Lauren Hom and Marla Menne 8-5, while Samantha Shapiro and Cristina Arellano defeated Darcy Haubrick and Jenni White 9-8 (7-0) at the three position.
Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen defeated Linda Tien and Richelle Marasigan 8-1 at No. 1 doubles to avoid the sweep.
Needing only three points to end the match, Emory got wins from Marasigan, Tien and Anand to advance.
Marasigan won at No. 1 singles over Houlihan 6-1, 6-1, while Tien defeated Palen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Rounding out the win in straight sets was Anand over Jaime Gaard 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Matches not finished were Chan-Hom at No. 3 singles, Shapiro-Menne at No. 5 singles and Arellano-White at No. 6 singles.
The Eagles will look to advance to their fourth straight national championship match Thursday when they take on Trinity at 2:30 p.m. PST.
EMORY SEEDED THIRD FOR NCAA FINALS
(May 8) The fifth-ranked Emory women's tennis team received a third-place seed for the upcoming NCAA Finals, May 17-22 in Santa Cruz, Calif. Emory (16-6) will open the finals against sixth-seeded Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.).
The winner of the Emory-Gustavus Adolphus match will take on the winner of the Trinity-Amherst winner Thursday, May 18 in the semifinals.
Emory went on the road and earned two wins to stay in the running for its fourth consecutive national championship and fifth overall. The first round saw the Eagles defeat Rhodes College (Tenn.) for the second time this season by a score of 5-0.
The second round had the Eagles avenging a regular season loss to third-ranked University of the South (Tenn.) by a score of 5-1.
EAGLES TAKE DOWN UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH, MOVE INTO NCAA QUARTERS
(May 7) The fifth-ranked Emory women's tennis team took one step closer to a fourth consecutive national championship with a 5-1 victory over the third-ranked University of the South, Sunday. Emory avenged a defeat suffered to the Tigers earlier in the season.
Emory (16-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by claiming all three doubles points. Richelle Marasigan and Linda Tien defeated Gab Carvalho and Mark Katherine Stone 8-3 in No. 1 doubles, while Jamie Chan and Indu Anand outlasted Laura Fanjoy and Molly Willett 8-6 at No. 2 doubles..
Rounding out the doubles sweep was Cristina Arellano and Samantha Shapiro at No. 3 over Lauren Willett and Landon Viney 8-3.
Arellano scored the first singles victory for Emory over Viney in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles. Marasigan dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Carvalho at No. 1 singles to make the score 4-1.
Needing only one more point for victory, Tien defeated Fanjoy at No. 2 singles 6-1, 7-5 to secure the Eagle victory.
Matches not finishing were Chan-L. Willett at No. 3, Anand-M. Willett at No. 4 and Shapiro-Stone at No. 5.
Up next for the blue and gold is the NCAA Quarterfinals in Santa Cruz, Calif., May 17. The NCAA will announce Monday the pairings for the next round.
EMORY ADVANCES TO SECOND ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT
(May 6) The fifth-ranked and three-time defending national champion Emory women's tennis team won its 25th consecutive post season match with a 5-0 shut-out of Rhodes College on Saturday at the University of the South.
With the victory, the Eagles earn a rematch with host, University of the South. The Eagles and Tigers battled early in the season with Sewanee taking a 5-4 victory. Match time is set for noon central time.
Emory jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a sweep in the doubles matches. Richelle Marasigan and Linda Tien won 8-1 at No. 1 singles, while Jamie Chan and Indu Anand won at No. 2 doubles 8-1.
Rounding out the sweep was Samantha Shapiro and Cristina Arellano winning 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
With the match being played to decision, Emory's one and two position players closed out the match. Marasigan won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Tien won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
EMORY TO COMPETE IN 2006 NCAA WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
(May 2) The fifth-ranked Emory women's tennis team will look to defend its back-to-back-to-back national championships as it begins play in the 2006 NCAA Championships at the University of the South, May 6-7.
The Eagles (14-6) open play on May 6 against Rhodes College (Tenn.) who stands 13-8. The two squads met earlier this season with Emory taking an 8-1 victory. The winner will then move into the second round to face host University of the South (19-2).
The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first and second rounds played at regional sites. The quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds of the team championship will be played May 17-19 and the individuals championships will be played May 20-22 at the University of California, Santa Cruz East and West Courts hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz.
The selection of teams for the championships was based on head-to-head competition, won-lost record, strength of schedule, results against common opponents and teams, late-season play, consistency of lineup and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
EMORY WINS 19TH UAA CHAMPIONSHIP
(April 23) The Emory women's tennis team claimed its 19th University Athletic Association Championship in as many years with a 7-2 victory over Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.). Emory is the only team in conference history to win the women's tennis championship.
With the win, Emory moves to 14-6 on the season and now sets its sites on the NCAA tournament, where the Eagles are the three-time defending national champion.
The Tartans of Carnegie Mellon looked to make this morning's contest a fight by grabbing two of the three doubles points. The No. 1 team of Amy Staloch and Mona Iyer defeated Jamie Chan and Richelle Marasigan 8-4, while the No. 3 team of Alison Liu and Kelly Nakamura beat Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano 9-8 (7-5).
The Eagles came back with the No. 2 doubles team of Samantha Shapiro and Linda Tien winning over Sheena David and Samantha Schultz 8-2.
Trailing 2-1, Emory caught fire and won all six singles matches. Five of the six singles matches saw the blue and gold win in straight sets.
Anand got things rolling with a straight set shut-out over Liu in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Chan and Shapiro dominated their opponents, with Chan defeating David in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and Shapiro defeating Nakamura 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.
Tien won at No. 2 singles over Iyer by a score of 6-4, 6-2 and Arellano beat Schultz 7-5, 6-0 to give the Eagles a 7-2 advantage.
Marasigan provided a huge lift for the Eagles, defeating Staloch, the 2005 ITA National Champion, in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Up next for the Eagles is the NCAA tournament's regional play, May 6-7.
EMORY DEFEATS WASHU; ADVANCES TO UAA CHAMPIONSHIP
(April 22) The Emory women's tennis team defeated Washington University on Saturday during the semifinals of the UAA Championships 5-1. The Eagles will look to claim their 19th consecutive conference championship on Sunday.
With the win, Emory ups its current post season win streak to 23 matches, dating back to the beginning of the 2003 post season.
The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches to open play. Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano won No. 2 doubles over Ashley Cook and Ania Tchergueiko 8-0, while Jamie Chan and Jenny Moscato defeated Sharon Chang and Erin Fleming 8-3 in No. 3 doubles.
Due to weather concerns, the singles matches were to be played to decision, with Linda Tien, Samantha Shapiro and Arellano each claiming victories to end the match.
Tien won at No. 1 singles over Fleming in straight sets 6-0, 6-3, while Shapiro shut out her opponent, Cook, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Rounding out the blue and gold victors was Arellano over Tchergueiko 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
The top seeded Eagles will now face second-seeded Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) for the championship. The match is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on the Emory courts.
EMORY TAKES DOWN CASE WESTERN RESERVE
(April 21) The Emory women's tennis team opened post season play with a 9-0 victory over Case Western Reserve in the first round of the University Athletic Association tennis championships, being played on the campus of Emory University.
Doubles action saw Richelle Marasigan and Jenny Moscato shut out Sarah Langhorst and Elaine Leung 8-0 in the three position. Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano took down Lauren Gray and Christine Yun at No. 2 doubles 8-2, while Samantha Shapiro and Linda Tien wrapped up the doubles at No. 1 with an 8-3 win over Marta Worwag and Emma Nochomovitz.
Singles play saw Emory win each match in straight sets. Highlighting play was Anand and Shapiro winning in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Anand defeated Yun 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while Shapiro beat Gray 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 position.
Marasigan won at No. 1 singles over Worwag 6-2, 6-1, while Tien took down Nochomovitz 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
Wrapping up the winners were Arellano at No. 5 singles over Leung 6-2, 6-0 and Moscato defeating Langhorst 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Emory is looking for its 19th consecutive UAA women's tennis championship. Since the UAA started tennis in 1988, Emory has won each championship. It also ups the post season win streak to 22 matches, dating back to the beginning of the 2003 post season.
Up next for the Eagles is a match-up between the winner of the Washington University (Mo.) and NYU contest, on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
WASHINGTON & LEE OUTLASTS EMORY
(April 16) In a battle of the top two teams in the country, No. 2 Washington & Lee defeated No. 1 Emory 6-3 on Sunday at the Emory tennis courts.
Washington & Lee jumped out to a 3-0 lead, winning all three doubles matches in tightly contested contests. Richelle Marasigan and Jamie Chan lost 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, as did Linda Tien and Samantha Shapiro at the two position. Cristina Arellano and Indu Anand fell at No. 3 by a score of 8-4.
Emory won three of the six singles matches. Tien won at the two position over Katie Tabb in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Indu Anand defeated Leah Weston at No 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Rounding out the Emory winners was Shapiro at No. 5 singles over Tori Christmas in a three set match 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
The Eagles next play host to the UAA Championships, April 21-23.
EMORY SHUTS OUT MARY WASHINGTON
(April 15) The Emory women's tennis team upped its record to 11-5 with a 9-0 shut-out victory over the University of Mary Washington (Va.).
Emory opened the match with dominating play out of the three doubles teams. Linda Tien and Samantha Shapiro won at No. 1 doubles over Katie Miglin and Natlia Fugate by a score of 8-2, while Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano claimed No. 2 doubles over Kelsey Mansmann and Becky Morse-Karzen 8-0.
Jamie Chan and Jenny Moscato rounded out the doubles victories in the three position, posting another shut out at 8-0 over Amy Sheete and Gayle Smith.
For the second match in a row, the singles competition saw straight set wins for each of the six Eagle competitors. Tien won at No. 1 over Miglin 6-0, 6-4, while Chan defeated Fugate at No. 2 6-2, 6-2.
Anand won at the three position over Sheetz by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Shapiro saw her No. 4 singles match go to a tie breaker in the second set, winning 6-4, 7-6 (1) over Stephanie Kurti.
Rounding out the Emory wins were Arellano at No. 5 over Morse-Karzen 6-2, 6-0 and Christine Ingoldsby at No. 6 over Kate Malpeli 7-5, 6-3.
Emory returns to the courts Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for a showdown with Washington & Lee. This is a match-up of No. 1 versus No. 2, as Emory is ranked one and W&L two.
EAGLES DEFEAT RHODES 8-1
(April 14) The top-ranked Emory women's tennis team returned home to defeat Rhodes College (Tenn.) by a score of 8-1. This marks Emory's first of three home matches to close out regular season play.
The doubles matches saw the home-standing Eagles win two of three. Linda Tien and Sam Shapiro defeated Margaret Tufton and Duram Kyle in No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-2. In No. 3 doubles, Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano took down Sunya Sweeney and Staci Thomas 8-1.
Emory swept through the singles competition as each competitor won in straight sets. Richelle Marasigan won in her return to No. 1 singles over Allison Tinney 6-3, 6-1. Linda Tien defeated Colleen Forsyth 6-2, 6-0 in No. 2 singles.
In No. 3 singles, Jamie Chan beat Tufton 6-4, 6-1, while Anand won at the four position over Sweeney by a scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Rounding out play were Shapiro and Arellano collecting wins at the five and six positions, respectively. Shapiro won over Kyle 6-0, 6-3 and Arellano defeated Thomas 6-2, 6-0.
Up next for the Eagles (10-5) is a match-up with the University of Mary Washington (Va.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
EMORY DROPS 5-4 DECISION TO SEWANEE
(April 11) The Emory women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Sewanee: University of the South.
Emory got off to a good start, winning two of the three doubles matches. Richelle Marasigan and Jamie Chan shut out Gab Carvalho and Mary Katherine Stone at No. 1 doubles 8-0, while Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano won 8-6 over Laura Willett and Landan Viney at the No. 3 position.
Singes play saw Chan and Samantha Shapiro claim wins. Chan defeated Lauren Willett 7-6, 7-6 at No. 3 singles. Shapiro claimed a three-set victory over Mary Katherine Stone in No. 5 singles by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Up next for Emory is a home match on Friday, April 14, against Rhodes College (Tenn.) at 3:00 p.m.
EMORY SPLITS SUNDAY DOUBLE-HEADER
(April 9) The top-ranked Emory women's tennis team split a Sunday double-header, dropping a hard-fought decision to Division II's top ranked team in Armstrong Atlantic, before bouncing back to defeat Spelman College.
Against Armstrong Atlantic, Emory dropped a 9-0 decision. Jamie Chan and Richelle Marasigan were defeated 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Linda Tien and Samantha Shapiro lost 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. The final doubles match saw Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano fall 8-1.
In singles action, Tien fell to Luisa Cowper 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 position. Marasigan dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match to Iulia Stupak at No. 2. Chan and Anand were both defeated at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Chan fell to Dziyana Nazaruk 6-0, 6-0, while Anand lost 6-2, 6-1 to Johanna Dahlback.
Shapiro and Christine Ingoldsby both put up valient efforts before losing. Shapiro lost 6-3, 6-0 to Manuela Emmrich at No 5 singles and Ingoldsby lost to Caroline Grage 6-2, 6-0.
The second match of the day saw Emory take out its aggression on Spelman, winning 9-0. Shapiro and Tien teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 8-2, while Anand and Arellano won No. 2 doubles 8-3. Chan and Jenny Moscato won No. 3 doubles in a shut-out 8-0.
In singles play, four of the six matches were straight set shut-outs. Chan (No. 2), Shapiro (No. 4), Ingoldsby (No. 5) and Arellano (No. 6) all won 6-0, 6-0. Tien won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2, while Anand won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
Up next for Emory is a trip to Sewanee, Tenn., to face the University of the South on April 11. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.
EAGLES EDGE DEPAUW 5-4
(April 1) The Emory women's tennis team upped its win streak to three with a 5-4 home victory over Depauw University (Ind.) Saturday afternoon.
Emory took two of the three doubles points with Linda Tien and Samantha Shapiro winning at No. 2 doubles over Erin Andrade and Lannie Shim 8-5, while Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano defeated Betsy Flanzer and Ashley Baker 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Emory took three of the six contests.
Leading the way was Richelle Marasigan at No. 2 singles, as she defeated Amrita Padda 6-4, 6-4. Jamie Chan won at No. 3 singles over Flanzer 6-2, 6-0, while Anand rounded out the Emory victors with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Alex Nelson at No. 4 singles.
Up next for Emory is a match with Shorter College (Ga.) in Rome Ga., Saturday, April 8. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
EMORY CLOSES OUT "FAB FIVE" WITH WIN
(March 26) The top-ranked Emory women's tennis team closed out competition at the "Fab Five" with a 7-2 victory over No. 8 Williams College (Mass.) on Sunday.
In doubles action, Emory took two of three matches. Linda Tien and Sam Shapiro won at No. 2 doubles over Alexandra Maclennan and Courtney Bartlett 8-6, while Indu Anand and Cristina Arellano won at No. 3 doubles over Annie Hancock and Allison Rottkamp 8-3.
In singles action, Tien won at No. 1 singles over Maclennan 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), while Richelle Marasigan defeated Bartlett 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 4 singles, Anand defeated Hancock 6-1, 6-2, while Shapiro edged past Rottkamp 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Christine Ingoldsby defeated Anne Schneidman 6-3, 6-3 to close out the Emory win.

EAGLES DEFEAT MIDDLEBURY 6-2
(March 25) The Emory women's tennis team evened its record in the "Fab Five" touranment with a 6-2 victory over Middlebury College (Vt.) Saturday afternoon.
Emory took two of the three doubles matches, with Jamie Chan and Richelle Marasigan winning at No. 1 doubles over Amy Roche and Elizabeth Emery 8-4. Linda Tien and Sam Shapiro won at No. 2 doubles over Emily Holick and Elizabeth Stone by a score of 8-2.
In singles play, Tien defeated Roche 8-6 in No. 1 singles, while Marasigan defeated Amanda Berck 8-6 at No. 2 singles.
Indu Anand won at No. 4 singles over Amy Berkman 8-0, while Shapiro rounded out the Emory victors with an 8-2 win over Clare Burke.
Up next for the Eagles is a match with Williams College, Sunday morning, to close out competition in the tournament.
TRINITY DEFEATS EMORY 7-1
(March 24) Competing in the "Fab Five" tournament, the top-ranked Emory women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 match to sixth-ranked Trinity University (Texas).
Emory's two victories came in the singles competition. In No. 3 singles, Richelle Marasigan defeated Hayley Dittus by a score of 7-5, 6-1. In No. 4 singles, Indu Anand came away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Cayleigh Simpson.
Jamie Chan's match with Alicia Hunt provided the most excitement as it went to three sets in No. 2 singles. Hunt prevailed with scores of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Emory returns to action Saturday, March 25 when it takes on Middlebury College (Vt.) during the second day of play at the "Fab Five," which consists of the countries top Division III women's tennis programs from across the country.
EAGLES CLOSE OUT ROADTRIP WITH 6-3 WIN
(March 16) The Emory women's tennis team closed out its three-match trip to California with a 6-3 victory over Redlands. With the win Emory now stands 5-2 on the season.
The Eagles went 2-0 on their trip, defeating UC-San Diego and Redlands. Their match with Pomona-Pitzer was halted due to rain.
The Eagles return home to face Division I member Murray State on Monday, March 20. Emory has faced two division one schools this season, defeating Georgia State and losing to UNC Wilmington.
EMORY SLIPS PAST UC-SAN DIEGO 5-4
(March 14) Emory slips past Division II member University of California-San Diego by a score of 5-4. This marks Emory's second win of the season against an opponent from Division I and Division II . The Eagles now stand 4-2 on the season.
Emory claimed victories in Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles, as well as No. 3 doubles. Nos. 1 and 3 singles went to three sets.
The blue and gold conclude its west coast swing with a Thursday match again Redlands.
EMORY'S MATCH WITH POMONA-PITZER HALTED DUE TO RAIN
(March 12) Emory's first match in it's west coast swing was rained out Sunday. The Eagles were cruising to victory when the match had to be halted due to rain.
The Eagles had claimed the doubles points and were on their way to victory. Up next is a trip to San Diego, Calif., where Emory will take on Division II member UC-San Diego.
EAGLES DEFEAT SWARTHMORE 9-0
(March 8) The top-ranked Emory women's tennis team returned to its winning ways with a 9-0 victory over Swarthmore College (Pa.). The match saw the Emory competitors win each match in straight sets.
The doubles matches saw Jamie Chan and Richelle Marasigan defeat Erica Lukoski and Jennie Park in the number one position 8-2, while Indu Anand and Sam Shapiro defeat Sara Sargent and Waverly Lutz 8-2 in the number two position.
Rounding out the doubles was Linda Tien and Jenny Moscato winning 8-1 over Jenna Adelberg and Emily Townsend at number three.
Marasigan posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sonya Reynolds in No. 1 singles, while Tien defeated Park at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-0.
Chan and Anand cruised to singles victories as well in Nos. 3 and 4. Chan defeated Townsend 6-1, 6-3, while Anand swept Lukoski 6-0, 6-0.
Rounding out the winners were Shaprio and Christina Arellano. Shapiro defeated Sargent 6-0, 6-3, while Arellano took down Lutz 6-2, 6-1.
Up next for the Eagles is a Spring Break trip to California where they will take on Pomona-Pitzer on March 12, UC-San Diego on March 14 and Redlands University on March 16.
EMORY DEFEATED 6-3 BY DIVISION I UNC-WILLMINGTON
(March 4) Emory women fell to 2-2 for the season with their loss today to UNC-Wilmington.
The Eagles won at positions 2 and 3 singles, and 3 doubles.
EMORY DEFEATED 9-0 BY NAIA POWERHOUSE AUBURN UNIVERSITY- MONTGOMERY
(March 3) Emory women were defeated 9-0 by NAIA powerhouse Aubrun University -Montgomery (AL).
The Eagles return to the courts on Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m. to compete against Division I UNC-Wilmington.
EAGLES REMAIN UNDEFEATED WITH 7-2 WIN OVER CLAYTON STATE
(March 1) The top-ranked Emory women's tennis team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 7-2 victory over Clayton College and State (Ga.).
Emory swept through doubles, with Richelle Marasigan and Jamie Chan winning No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-2. Sam Shapiro and Indu Anand won No. 2 doubles 8-4, while Linda Tien and Jenny Moscato rounded out the doubles at No. 3 with an 8-0 win.
Emory claimed five of the seven singles matches. Winners included Linda Tien at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-4, Jamie Chan at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0, Indu Anand at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0, Sam Shapiro 6-3, 6-0 and Christine Ingoldsby at No. 7 singles 8-6.
Up next for the Eagles is a March 3 home contest against Auburn University-Montgomery. Match-time is set for 2:30 p.m.
EMORY OPENS SEASON WITH 5-4 WIN OVER GEORGIA STATE
(Feb. 9) The top-ranked and three-time defending national champion Emory women's tennis team opened the 2006 season defeating Georgia State of NCAA Division I by a score of 5-4.
The match came down to freshman Jenny Moscato defeating Diana Cardenas by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Moscato, playing in her first-ever collegiate duel match also helped Emory claim the doubles points as she teamed with sophomore Indu Anand to defeat Mateja Pougorsek and Kiera Strickland 8-6.
The other doubles matches saw sophomore Sam Shapiro and Linda Tien defeat Rachel Malina and Brittany Smith 8-6. Senior Jamie Chan and junior Richelle Marasigan fell to Anne Breiholtz and Martina Nitkova by a score of 8-2.
In singles play Shapiro came away with the day's most exciting match, defeating Strickland 6-0, 1-6, 17-15. Also claiming a singles victory Anand who eased by Malina 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles continue their season-opening home stand as they face Clayton College and State (Ga.) on March 1, at 2:30 p.m.

Emory sweeps final day of ITA South Regional
The Emory women's tennis team displayed its dominance once again, by claiming the A singles, B singles and A and B doubles titles at the ITA South Regional. All of the finals with the exception of the B doubles featured Emory versus Emory.

6-3 to win the A singles.

Claiming A doubles was the duo of Linda Tien and Sam Shapiro. They
defeated Richelle Marasigan and Serena Burkard 8-4.
Christina Arellano and Amando Dechert took B doubles with an 8-4
victory over Kristin Thomas and Catarina Barbosa of
Texas-Tyler.
