#2 Emory Women’s Tennis Continues Streak with 9-0 Win over Birmingham Southern

The Emory University women's tennis team, ranked second in the nation, continued its dominance over opposing Division III teams with a 9-0 over Birmingham Southern College on Thursday at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

The Eagles swept through the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the contest, with Zahra Dawson and Lorne McManigle winning 8-3 in the first doubles match, Tshema Nash and Sabra Rogers earning a 8-2 win in second doubles, and the third doubles team of freshmen Amanda Wikman and Jordan Wylie claiming an 8-5 victory.

In the singles matches, Emory did not lose a single set in any of the six contests.  Dawson was flawless in the first singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Wylie claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over her counterpart in the second singles contest.  In third singles, Lindsay Reidenbach won by default, followed by a 6-4, 6-0 win in the fourth singles contest by Sara Vrabec.  Rounding out the contest, Wikman won 6-1, 6-0 in fifth singles, and Rogers claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win in sixth singles play.

The Eagles improved to 8-2 on the season with the victory, including a perfect 7-0 against other Division III teams.  Birmingham Southern dropped to 2-4 with the loss.

Emory will embark upon its spring trip next, facing Grand Valley State University in Orlando, FL, at 4:00 PM on March 7th.
