The fourth-ranked Emory University women’s tennis team
finished its 2010 regular season on a positive note, defeating
Brenau University 7-2 at the Woodruff P.E. Center on
Sunday.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after winning all three
doubles matches. Emory’s first pairing of Zahra
Dawson and Lorne McManigle claimed a 8-6
victory over their Brenau counterparts, Lyn See Choo and Kate
Mazackova. In the second doubles match, senior all-Americans
Sabra Rogers and Tshema Nash won
8-4 over Jolene Wong and Liubov Orlova. Emory’s
Jordan Wylie and Lindsay
Reidenbach rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 win over
Hannah Thompson and Eline Nagels in the third doubles match.
In singles play, Emory’s Tshema Nash won in straight sets for
Emory, 6-1, 6-4 over Jolene Wong in the fourth singles match.
In the second singles match, McManigle earned a come-from-behind
4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win over Kate Mazackova, while Reidenbach came
from behind against Hannah Thompson in the fifth singles match,
2-6, 7-5, 10-7, to clinch the team victory for Emory.
Rounding out the day, Emory's Sara Vrabec remained
perfect in singles matches during the spring season, improving to
18-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory over Eline Nagels.
With the win, Emory wraps up its regular season with a record of
18-5, while Brenau drops to 11-10. The Eagles will open up
the NCAA Tournament on either May 14th or
15th, at a time and location to be determined.
