The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked second in
Division III, extended its winning streak to nine matches with a
6-3 victory over eighth-ranked DePauw University.
The Eagles fell behind early in the match, dropping two out of the
three doubles matches to face a 2-1 deficit. Emory received
its only doubles victory of the match from its first team of
Zahra Dawson and Lorne McManigle,
as the pair claimed an 8-3 victory over their counterparts from
DePauw.
The Eagles recovered though, winning the first two singles matches
to finish, as Tshema Nash earned a perfect 6-0,
6-0 win in the fifth singles match, and Dawson claimed a 6-1, 6-2
victory in second singles. After a McManigle loss in the
first singles match knotted the contest at three matches apiece,
the Eagles would clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win from
Lindsay Reidenbach in the fourth singles match,
and a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 win from Jordan Wylie in the
third singles contest. Sara Vrabec would end
the day on a positive note for the Eagles with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win
in the sixth singles contest.
The win raises Emory’s record to 13-2 on the season, while
DePauw fell to 10-2 with the loss. The Eagles are now 11-0
against Division III teams this season, including a 6-0 mark
against ranked Division III opponents.
Emory will return to action next week at the Fab 5 Tournament,
starting with a Friday, March 26th match against the
University of Mary Washington at 4:00 PM in Fredericksburg, VA.
