The Emory University women's tennis team picked up a pair of 8-1
victories to open its spring break trip in Orlando, FL, defeating
the 33rd-ranked Division II squad, Grand Valley State
University, on Sunday, and the College of New Jersey, ranked
22nd in Division III, on Monday.
During Sunday's match against Grand Valley State, the Eagles took a
2-1 lead after the doubles contests, with wins from their second
doubles pairing of Sabra Rogers and Tshema
Nash and their third doubles team of Jordan
Wylie and Lindsay Reidenbach. Emory
would go on to win all six of the singles matches, including five
of the six in straight sets.
On Monday against the College of New Jersey, the Eagles would sweep
the doubles contests to take a 3-0 lead. Emory would win each
of the first five singles matches in straight sets, including a
perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles for Zahra
Dawson.
Emory has now won six matches in a row, and ten of its last 11
contests, to improve to 10-2 on the season. The Eagles also
remained undefeated against Division III opponents, standing at 8-0
this season. Grand Valley State dropped to 13-6 with the
loss, while Emory handed the College of New Jersey its first loss
of the season, placing the Yellowjackets at 7-1 for the
campaign.
Emory will finish its Orlando trip on Wednesday, as the Eagles will
play a doubleheader against Coe College and the University of
Rochester, starting at 12:30 PM.
