Emory University senior Zahra Dawson claimed the match-clinching singles victory during the fifth-ranked Eagles third round victory over seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University.  The 20th-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region battled to a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win over Patricia Kirkland (ranked 18th in the region) in the third singles match, giving the Eagles’ the clinching point in the team’s 5-2 win.  Earlier in the contest, Dawson earned her 100th career doubles win, claiming an 8-5 victory with Gabrielle Clark (the top-ranked doubles pairing in the region) over Trelsie Sadler and Lauren Lukas.  During Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Methodist University in the second round of the tournament, Dawson won the first doubles match 8-0, and was leading 6-0, 2-1 in the third singles match was play was stopped due to the Eagles’ win.  The all-American stands at 24-7 this season in doubles play, and 14-9 in singles action.  Dawson’s play has helped the Eagles to a 17-5 overall record this season.
