2014-15 Emory Women’s Tennis Season Recap

The Emory University women's tennis team capped off its campaign with a second-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships, marking the Eagles' third-straight top-two finish and 10^th overall in the program's history.

After receiving a first-round bye in the NCAA Championships, Emory defeated Webster University and the 12^th-ranked University of the South to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.  At the finals site in Mason, Ohio, the Eagles would go on to earn wins against fifth-ranked Middlebury College and fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, both by a 5-1 score, to reach the championship match, where Emory was edged by top-ranked Williams College 5-4.

Two Eagles went on to participate in the individual NCAA Championships.  In the singles tournament, sophomore Michelle Satterfield advanced to the semifinals, while also teaming with freshman Anna Fuhr to finish in the round of 16 of the doubles tournament.  Satterfield and Fuhr each earned All-America honors during the spring season, as did junior Beatrice Rosen based on her final national singles ranking.

Emory ended the year with a 20-4 overall record, marking the second-straight 20 win season for the team, and the 10^th in the program's history.  Emory was 17-2 against Division III opposition, with both losses coming against the eventual national champions Williams, and extended its home winning streak to 22-straight matches.

Individually, both Satterfield (eighth) and Rosen (13^th) finished among the top-50 ranked players nationally, while Fuhr and Satterfield finished tied for 10^th in the final doubles national poll.  In addition to Satterfield, Rosen and Fuhr, sophomore Melissa Goodman (14^th), sophomore Katarina Su (17^th) and freshman Bridget Harding (23^rd) were all ranked in the final Atlantic South Region singles poll, with the duo of Goodman and Rosen checking in at eighth in the final regional doubles rankings. 

Harding led the Eagles in singles wins during the season with a 27-4 overall record, tied for the 11^th-most victories in a season in school history, while Su reached the 20-win mark in singles play for the second-straight season with a record of 22-7.  In doubles action, Su's 23 victories paced the Eagles during the season, while Fuhr, Goodman and Rosen each had 20-win campaigns.

Emory claimed its 26^th University Athletic Association Championship in 28 years of conference competition in 2015, defeating sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 7-2 in the title match, after earning 9-0 wins against New York University and the 15^th-ranked University of Chicago in the early-round matches.  Harding was named the UAA Rookie of the Year, becoming the third-straight Eagle to win the award and the sixth overall in the program's history.  Along with Harding, junior Madison Gordon, senior Rebecca Siegler, Goodman, Rosen, Satterfield and Su each earned all-conference honors for their performances during the tournament.

In the fall, Emory swept the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall South Regional Championships, with Rosen winning the singles draw, and Fuhr and Su teaming up to claim the doubles title.  It marked the eighth-straight season and the 13^th-time overall that the Eagles have swept the two draws.  Rosen went on to finish third in the Division III singles draw at the ITA Small College Nationals, while Fuhr and Su placed sixth in the doubles draw.

In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Rosen was named to the Captial One/ CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-District Team for the first time in her career.
