Emory Women's Tennis Set to Defend NCAA Crown; Will Play Opening Rounds at Sewanee

The Emory University Women's Tennis team, winners of two of the last three National Championships, are set to defend their title as the NCAA Division III tournament begins later this week. The Eagles were one of 49 programs selected to the tournament field as announced on NCAA.com Monday afternoon.

Emory, making its 33rd-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, received one of the 38 automatic qualifiers after claiming its fifth straight and 28th overall University Athletic Association championship in April. The Eagles will enter the field 13-6 overall and 11-1 against Division III opponents.

Emory received a first-round bye and travels to Sewanee University in Sewanee, TN to play its second and third round matches. The Eagles will play the winner of Friday's opening round match between Methodist (17-6) and Rose-Hulman (12-2) on Saturday, May 13th. On the other side of the draw, 13th-ranked Washington & Lee (20-5) will face off against 17th-ranked and host Sewanee (19-5).

The two Saturday winners will square off on Sunday, May 15th with a bid to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on the line. The 2017 NCAA Division III Quarterfinals are slated to begin on May 22nd in Chattanooga, TN.
