The third-ranked Emory University Women's Tennis program is headed to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals for the 10th consecutive season and the 27th time overall following a 5-1 win over 13th-ranked Washington and Lee University Sunday afternoon at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center in Sewanee, Tennessee.
The NCAA Division III Quarterfinals are slated to begin next Monday, May 22nd, at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Eagles are set to face either Bowdoin College or Wesleyan University in the Round of Eight.
The Generals began the scoring in doubles, taking the first match on court one as Brooke Donnelly and Tessa Hill handed junior Bridget Harding and senior Katarina Su an 8-4 defeat. The deficit was short-lived as seniors Michelle DeMeo and Paula Castro evened the score at 1-1 with an 8-3 victory on court three before senior Michelle Satterfield and sophomore Daniela Lopez put Emory in front with an 8-4 win at second doubles.
Su extended the Eagles lead to 3-1 with a dominating performance on court four, blanking W&L's Mary Hampton McNeal 6-0, 6-0. Castro followed moments later with a win at sixth singles, taking down Emily Kochard 6-1, 6-2. Lopez provided Emory with the clinching match point at third singles, defeating Michelle Fleenor in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
At the conclusion of the match, Emory held leads in two of the three remaining singles matches: Satterfield at second singles (6-2, 4-1) and senior Melissa Goodman at fifth singles (6-2, 2-4).
