Emory Women's Tennis Welcomes Top-Ranked Recruiting Class

Emory University Women's Tennis Head Coach Amy Bryant has announced the incoming recruiting class – Katie Chang, Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, Sasha Hartje, Defne Olcay, Trisha Sundaram and Stephanie Taylor – that will join the Eagles for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign.

The group has earned high praise around the tennis community as tennisrecruiting.net has ranked the incoming class No. 1 among Division III programs and No. 15 among Mid-Majors across all NCAA divisions. It is the third time since 2010 in which Bryant has brought in a top-ranked recruiting class to Atlanta.

"I'm very excited to add these six student-athletes to our squad," exclaimed Bryant. "They have very big shoes to fill with the graduation of five of our starting players but I'm confident that they have the talent to do it!"

Highlighting the group of newcomers is a pair of five-star recruits from Florida: Gonzalez-Rico and Sundaram. Gonzalez-Rico, a Miami native, is currently ranked 50th nationally and 10th in the state of Florida on the Babolat recruiting list. Sundaram hails from Boca Raton and is currently ranked 63rd in the country and 13th in Florida.

Joining them is another Floridian native, Taylor, who is a four-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale. Chang (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Hartje (Bloomfield Hills, MI) have each garnered three-star ratings with Olcay rounding out the group as an unranked international player from Istanbul, Turkey.

All six players boast a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of eight or better on the 1-16 scale with Gonzalez-Rico checking in with a high of 10.
