Harding, Gonzalez-Rico Set for ITA Oracle Cup

Emory University senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico will represent the Women's Tennis team this weekend at the 2017 ITA Oracle Cup which will be held at the Rome Tennis Center on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia from Thursday, October 12th through Sunday, October 15th.

Gonzalez-Rico enters the singles competition as the No.-3 seed and will square off against the winner of the Northwest and Southwest play-in match between Linfield's Ella Riddle and Southwestern's Kate Daugherty in the first round at 9:00 AM on Thursday morning. Gonzalez-Rico earned her spot in the competition by virtue of winning the ITA Fall South Regional Championship last month.

Gonzalez-Rico and Harding own the No.-3 seed in the doubles bracket as competition begins this week after winning the ITA South Regional crown. The tandem will face Wisconsin-Whitewater's Bridgid McGuire and Jillian Wallace in the first round at 1:30 PM on Thursday. McGuire and Wallace gained a spot in the tournament after claiming the Midwest regional title.

At the 2016 ITA Oracle Cup, Harding and former Eagle Katarina Su became the fourth Emory doubles team to win the ITA Division III Doubles National Championship. Harding later was crowned the ITA DIII Singles national champion, becoming just third player in program history to win both in a single year, joining Mary Ellen Gordon and Gabrielle Clark.

The winners of the ITA Division III doubles competition will advance to the Oracle Cup bracket, along with winners of the other three divisions (Division II, NAIA, JUCO) to determine the overall 2017 Oracle Cup Champion on Sunday, October 16th. As for the respective singles champion for each division, they will automatically be entered in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 1-5, in Palm Desert, California.
