Women's Tennis Drops Spring Opener to Georgia State, 6-3

The No.-2 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team opened the spring season on Saturday, falling to Georgia State University, 6-3, at the Woodruff PE Center.

The Eagles began the match in strong fashion, taking two of the three doubles matches. Senior Anna Fuhr and freshman Stephanie Taylor paired up for the 8-5 victory on court two. After GSU knocked off junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Defne Olcay, 8-4, at third doubles, Emory's top duo in senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico earned the 8-5 win to put the Eagles in front heading into singles.

In singles play, the Panthers made quick work of the Eagles, winning all but one match in straight sets. Sophomore Emma Perelman notched the lone singles victory for the Eagles on the afternoon, defeating her opponent at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-1.

"Overall, it was a good first match for us," stated Head Coach Amy Bryant. "We stayed focused on our goals and competed well. GSU played very well and gave us a good look at strong singles caliber players which will help us prepare for the rest of the season."

Emory closes out the weekend on Sunday against Coastal Carolina at the Woodruff PE Center, beginning at 10:00 AM.
