Women's Tennis Trio Selected to NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

Three members of the Emory University Women's Tennis team were chosen to the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships late Wednesday afternoon as announced via press release.

Senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico were selected to compete in both the singles and doubles competitions with junior Daniela Lopez earning a berth to the singles draw. The NCAA Individual Championships are scheduled for May 24-26 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.

Gonzalez-Rico, currently the No.-2 singles player in Division III, will be making her first career appearance in the singles draw as she's compiled a 29-6 record so far this season. Her 29 victories rank third on the program's all-time single season list and are the most by a freshman since Jolyn Taylor won 30 matches during the 2002-03 season. Gonzalez-Rico earned ITA All-America honors in the fall as she captured the ITA South Regional singles crown and advanced to the ITA Division III singles championship match.

Harding will be making her third consecutive appearance in the NCAA singles competition, reaching the quarterfinal round as a sophomore and the semifinals as a junior. This season, Harding enters as the No.-7 singles player in the nation and is 22-8 on the year. She currently ranks third on the Emory all-time list with 103 career singles victories (103-35).

Both Harding and Gonzalez-Rico are also set to compete as a tandem in the NCAA Doubles Championships. Harding, partnered with former Eagle Katarina Su, has advanced to the quarterfinal round in each of the past two seasons in the doubles draw including a semifinal run a year ago. This season, Harding and Gonzalez-Rico have teamed up to post a 29-4 record, three wins shy of tying the program's single season record, and are a perfect 17-0 in the spring. Earlier this year, the duo claimed All-America honors after winning the ITA South Region doubles title and advanced to the ITA Division III doubles championship match.

Lopez, currently ranked No.-28 in Division III singles, joins Gonzalez-Rico as Emory first-timers in the NCAA singles tournament. This season, Lopez is 16-7 including a 9-4 mark playing at the third position. In the fall, Lopez advanced to the semifinals of the ITA South Region singles draw before falling to Gonzalez-Rico. For her career, Lopez owns a 53-20 record, is a two-time UAA All-Tournament team selection and was named to All-UAA First Team in 2016-17.
