Emory Women's Tennis Blanks Hanover, 5-0, in NCAA Tournament Second Round

The Emory University Women's Tennis team opened the 2018 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships on Saturday, defeating Hanover College 5-0 in the second round of the tournament.

The top-ranked Eagles, now 14-4 on the season and winners of eight straight matches, advance to the third round and will face either host Sewanee University or Washington University- St. Louis on Sunday afternoon with a start time to be determined.

Emory dominated all three matches in doubles action on the afternoon, dropping just two games total. Senior Bridget Harding and freshman Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico won their 18th consecutive match at first doubles, 8-0 and on both courts two and three, Emory notched matching 8-1 victories with senior Anna Fuhr and Stephanie Taylor winning at second doubles and junior Daniela Lopez and freshman Katie Chang winning on court three.

In singles play, Harding and sophomore Emma Perelman registered match wins to power the Eagles to the win. At first singles, Harding was a 6-0, 6-1 while Perelman did not drop a game on court four en route to the 6-0, 6-0 win.

At the conclusion of the match, the Eagles held lead in all four remaining matches: freshman Defne Olcay at second singles (6-1, 3-0), Taylor at third singles (6-0, 5-1), Chang at fifth singles (6-1, 4-1) and freshman Sasha Hartje at sixth singles (6-4, 4-0).
