Women's Tennis Opens Fall Slate with ITA Grass Court National Invitational

The Emory University Women's Tennis team will make its 2018-19 season debut this weekend, playing in the first annual Division III ITA Grass Court National Invitational at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Eagles will be one of four women's programs to compete in the invitational, joining fellow University Athletic Association members in the University of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon University as well as Washington and Lee University.

The weekend format features a round-robin style tournament in both singles and doubles competitions. The singles draw will include two flights of eight players, with three total matches per player while doubles will feature two draws of four teams with two guaranteed matches each. Play will take place from 10am-5pm Friday through Sunday on the historic Bill Talbert Stadium Court and on the additional grass courts at the Hall of Fame, all of which have hosted many of the sport's greatest tennis legends over the years.

Emory is coming off a 17-5 season and its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship match and returns All-Americans in senior captain Daniela Lopez and sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico, the Division III Rookie of the Year.
