Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico Advances to Division III Championship Match at ITA Cup

Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico of the Emory University Women's Tennis team reached the Division III Singles Championship match at the 2018 ITA Cup as play continued at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia Friday afternoon.

Gonzalez-Rico will make her second consecutive appearance in the ITA Division III Championship match after defeating Wesleyan's Venia Yeung in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. She will face John Carroll's Lauren O'Malley in the title match beginning at 8:30 AM Saturday morning. The winner of the ITA Division III singles championship will be automatically entered into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona from November 7-11.

In doubles, Gonzalez-Rico and freshman Jessica Fatemi saw their run come to an close in the semifinals Friday afternoon, falling to second-seeded Caroline Cox and Catherine Allen from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-0, 7-6 (4). The Emory duo will oppose fourth-seed Jessica Liu and Madeleine Paolucci of Case Western Reserve in the third place match at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
