Eagles Win Five Draws on Final Day of Wofford Invitational

The Emory University Women's Tennis team saw four players win their respective singles draws and one doubles pairing claim victory in their flight as the team concluded the Wofford Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

In singles, senior Daniela Lopez, sophomore Katie Chang and freshman Jessica Fatemi and Emma Cartledge highlighted the Eagles, recording wins in their finals matches. In the B draw, Lopez battled back to defeat ETSU's Raquel Amaro 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 and in the Conquer finals, Chang topped Brenau's Evelin Gouveia 6-2, 6-1. Fatemi and Cartledge both registered triumphs over Wofford foes to win their draws as Fatemi posted a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Brittney Wilbur and Cartledge won 6-4, 6-0 against Elizabeth Massie.

Chang and freshman Christina Watson earned two straight 6-0 victories against opponents from Brenau and Wofford to win the Carolina flight to lead the Eagles in double action on the afternoon. Sophomore Sasha Hartje and freshman Lauren Yoon added a trip to the finals in their draw with a 6-3 win over a duo from Wofford before falling 6-3 to Arkansas State in the final.

Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico is set to close out the fall schedule for the Eagles later this week as she will represent Emory at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, AZ beginning on Wednesday, November 7th. Gonzalez-Rico fell to ETSU's Laylo Bakhodirova in the A draw finals 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 on Sunday and reached the third place match with Fatemi in the main doubles draw.
