UNC's Alexa Graham Tops Gonzalez-Rico in ITA Nationals Opening Round

Emory University sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico battled University of North Carolina's Alexa Graham in the opening round of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships but came out on the other side of a 6-1, 7-5 decision Wednesday morning at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Center in Surprise, Arizona.

Gonzalez-Rico, the lone Division III representative in the field, fought hard against her Division I foe, answering back after falling behind 5-3 in the second set to even the score at 5-5. Unfortunately, Graham was able to take the next two points to win the match and advance to the next round of the tournament.

Gonzalez-Rico now falls into the singles consolation bracket with the Round of 32 beginning Thursday morning. For more information about the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, please click here.
