Top-Ranked Women's Tennis Blanks Millsaps, 9-0

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches on Friday, making quick work of Millsaps College at the Woodruff PE Center courts in Atlanta. The Eagles improved to 7-0 in the spring with the 9-0 victory while the Majors dropped to 7-1.

Emory opened the match with a strong performance in doubles, sweeping all three matches in just over 30 minutes. The tandems of sophomores Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay and senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Emma Cartledge both recorded 8-1 wins on courts one and two before sophomore Stephanie Taylor and freshman Christina Watson concluded the sweep with the 8-0 shutout on court three.

Taylor began the singles scoring, getting off to a 4-0 lead in the first set on court two before her opponent retired. Watson continued the scoring with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking on court four with sophomore Sasha Hartje added a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six. Junior Emma Perelman posted a 6-1, 6-0 on court five and on court three, sophomore Katie Chang was a 6-2, 6-0. Olcay rounded out the singles winners for the Eagles, pulling out the 6-3, 6-4 win on court one.

Emory now heads to Orlando, Florida for its spring break trip and will face fellow UAA-member Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday at 10:00 AM before taking on Amherst and Wesleyan at Rollins College on Thursday and Friday.
