Top-Ranked Women's Tennis Rolls Past #7 Wesleyan, 7-2

The top-ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team rounded out their spring break trip on Friday with its third straight win over a top-10 opponent, defeating No.-7 ranked Wesleyan University, 7-2, at Rollins College in Orlando, FL. The win marked the Eagles' 10th consecutive victory to improve to 10-0 while the Cardinals dropped to 4-1.

The Eagles took two of the three doubles points, winning matches on courts one and three to begin the match with a 2-1 advantage. Sophomores Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay won their fourth consecutive, posting an 8-6 win while sophomore Stephanie Taylor and freshman Christina Watson continued their unbeaten spring, moving to 8-0 with an 8-7 (5) decision at third doubles.

In singles, Emory saw three straight wins by Gonzalez-Rico and freshmen Emma Cartledge and Jessica Fatemi to clinch the match over the Cardinals. At sixth singles, Fatemi won her 11th straight match, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. At first singles, Gonzalez-Rico was a straight set winner as she won her seventh in a row, 6-3, 6-3. And at fifth singles, Cartledge rebounded after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to seal the win for the Eagles.

Lopez and Olcay added singles wins for the Eagles, picking up three set decisions on courts two and three with Lopez winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 on two and Olcay winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on three.

Emory returns to the courts on March 30th with a doubleheader against DePauw and Washington and Lee University at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.
