The Emory University women's tennis team battled Georgia State University on Saturday but fell 4-3 to the Division I Panthers in Atlanta, GA.
The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point to begin the match as the two teams played by Division I rules. Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay triumphed on court one, 6-2, with sophomore Stephanie Taylor and freshman Christina Watson adding a win on court three, 7-5.
GSU opened singles play with victories on courts two, three and five before Emory evened the match at 3-3 with wins on court one by Gonzalez-Rico, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and on court four by freshman Emma Cartledge, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The match was then decided on court six as GSU's Anastasia Grosheva bested freshman Jessica Fatemi in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
The Eagles (13-2) return to the courts on Monday against Division II's Columbus State before hosting NAIA's Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday.
