No.-1 Women's Tennis Top Columbus State, 4-3

The No.-1 ranked Emory University women's tennis team snapped a two-match skid with a 4-3 victory over the sixth-ranked Division II program Columbus State University Monday afternoon in Columbus, GA.

The Eagles improved to 14-2 with the win while the Cougars, which had entered Monday's match riding a 13-match winning streak including seven straight matches without dropping a single individual match, fell to 19-4 overall on the year.

Emory earned the doubles point in the match, recording wins at both second and third doubles. Senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Jessica Fatemi teamed up for the first time in doubles action, posting the 7-6 (2) win on court two while freshman Christina Watson and sophomore Stephanie Taylor were 6-4 winners on court three.

In singles play, Lopez collected a straight set win, 6-3, 6-1, on court two with Fatemi adding a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court five.

With the score knotted at 3-3, the match came down to the top singles court with sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and CSU's Marleen Tilgner. Gonzalez-Rico dropped the first set 4-6 before rallying in the second and third to clinch the match, taking both sets 6-3, 6-4 for her 12th consecutive match win.

The Eagles round out the regular season on Wednesday against Georgia Gwinnett College before traveling to Altamonte Springs on April 25th-27th for the UAA Championships.
