Women's Tennis Opens NCAA Tournament with Win over NC Wesleyan; Bryant Notches Career Win #400

The Emory University women's tennis team opened the NCAA postseason on Saturday, defeating North Carolina Wesleyan, 5-0, in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

The win also marked a milestone in the coaching career of Head Coach Amy Bryant as she reached the 400 wins plateau as she improved to 400-99 overall in her 20 seasons at the helm of the Eagles.

Emory, now 18-3 on the year and winners of four straight matches, advances to face Washington and Lee University in the regional finals Sunday afternoon. The match is slated to begin at 12:00 PM at the Woodruff PE Center. If you are planning on attending the match, please arrive early due to graduation being held at the WoodPEC Sunday morning.

The match began with two quick decisions in doubles with sophomores Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay posting the 8-0 shutout on court one and sophomore Stephanie Taylor and freshman Christina Watson following shortly after with an 8-1 decision on court three. Senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Jessica Fatemi rounded out the doubles sweep, recording the 8-5 victory on court two.

In singles, Olcay gave the Eagles a 4-0 advantage in the match with her 6-1, 6-0 victory on court three before Fatemi sealed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing on court five.

At the conclusion of the match, Emory controlled leads in all four remaining matches: Gonzalez-Rico 6-3, 2-2 on court one, Lopez 6-3 on court two, freshman Emma Cartledge 6-1, 3-2 on court four and freshman Lauren Yoon 6-0, 4-1 on court six.
