Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico Tabbed as UAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico was selected as the University Athletic Association women's tennis Athlete of the Week after capturing the NCAA Division III Women's Singles National Championship Sunday afternoon at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Gonzalez-Rico closed out her sophomore season in grand style as she captured the singles title with a straight set 6-4, 6-3 decision over Wesleyan's Venia Yeung. Gonzalez-Rico won four of her five matches during her singles run in straight sets en route to the title and was a combined 7-0 in singles over the course of her week in Kalamazoo.

Gonzalez-Rico added a quarterfinal run at the individual championships playing with Defne Olcay as the duo posted a combined 2-2 record during the week at Kalamazoo.

She helped the Eagles reached the national semifinals for the 11th consecutive season before bowing out to eventual national champion Wesleyan University. Emory wrapped up the campaign with an overall record of 20-4.
