All Emory Final Day Set at ITA South Regional Championships

The Emory University women's tennis team continued its dominance at the ITA South Regional Championships as the Eagles will have four members meet in the singles semifinals as well as an all Emory doubles championship to follow when the tournament concludes on Sunday.

In singles, freshman Alexa Goetz will meet junior Defne Olcay in one semifinal match while sophomore Emma Cartledge will face classmate Christina Watson in the other side of the draw. Goetz got past a pair of Eagle teammates on her route to the semifinals, defeating junior Sasha Hartje 6-0, 6-0 and sophomore Jessica Fatemi 6-2, 6-4. Olcay knocked off junior Stephanie Taylor 6-2, 6-2 before besting Sewanee's Catherine Owen 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Cartledge opened Saturday morning with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Sewanee's Ellie Czura before topping sophomore Lauren Yoon 6-1, 6-3 in the quarters. Watson reached the semifinals after defeating Sewanee's Morgan Downing 6-1, 6-1 before beating another Sewanee Tiger in Emma Smith 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-1.

In the doubles draw, the all Emory final will feature the duo of Goetz and Watson going up against Olcay and Cartledge. Goetz/Watson beat Millsaps' Gaskins/Clayton, 8-2, before defeating Fatemi and junior Katie Chang, 8-2, in the semifinals. On the other side of the draw, Olcay/Cartledge knocked off Hartje and freshman Stephanie Shulman, 8-3, before upending Yoon and Taylor, 8-5, in the semifinals.

The conclusion of the singles competition will begin at 8:30 AM on Sunday with the championship in doubles to follow in the afternoon.
