Women's Tennis Claims Four Draw Titles on Final Day of Georgia Southern Shootout

The Georgia Southern Fall Shootout came to an end Sunday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center in Statesboro, GA with members of the Emory University women's tennis team being declared champions in four of the weekend's 12 singles and doubles draws.

In singles, the Eagles claimed titles in three of the eight draws with juniors Stephanie Taylor, Sasha Hartje and sophomore Jessica Fatemi doing the honors. In the finals of the FAYE bracket, Taylor needed three sets but edged out Kennesaw State's Reilly 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 and in the finals of the ERK draw, Fatemi defeated Arkansas State's O'Brien in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Hartje earned a 6-3, 6-0 decision over SCAD's Waugh in her final match of the Freedom draw, finishing the weekend at 3-0 to be crowned the winner of the draw.

The Eagles added singles wins in three other matches on Sunday with sophomores Emma Cartledge, Christina Watson and freshman Stephanie Shulman winning consolation finals, all in straight sets.

In doubles, Fatemi and junior Katie Chang captured the GATA draw crown with a 6-0 victory over KSU's Jarrett and Pinesda Fernandez in the title match. Their win, along with Hartje and sophomore Lauren Yoon's title in the Eagles draw from Saturday, gave Emory two of the four doubles draw championships, and five overall, at the three-day tournament.

The Eagles as a team went 4-1 in doubles action on the final day with Hartje/Yoon winning 6-2 over a duo from SCAD, Taylor/Shulman besting another SCAD tandem, 6-0, and Cartledge and junior Defne Olcay winning the White draw's third place match 6-4 over Arkansas State's Pramethong/Guevremont.

Emory will see the quartet of Watson, Cartledge, Olcay and freshman Alexa Goetz close out the fall slate later this week (Oct. 17-20) as the duo takes part in the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.
