Women's Tennis Posts 8-1 Win over SCAD-Atlanta in Home Debut

The Emory University women's tennis team picked up a home victory Tuesday evening, defeating SCAD-Atlanta 8-1 on the indoor courts of the Woodruff PE Center.

The Eagles opened the match in quick fashion, sweeping all three doubles matches and dropping just three games total. At first doubles, junior Stephanie Taylor and sophomore Christina Watson collected their first win of the spring with a 6-1 decision and at second doubles, freshmen Alexa Goetz and Katelyn Thomas improved to 2-0 following a 6-0 win. Junior Katie Chang and sophomore Jessica Fatemi rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-2 verdict on court three.

In singles action, the Eagles recorded straight set wins in five of the six matches to seal the team win. At second singles, Watson was a 6-0, 6-2 winner and on courts three and four, classmates Fatemi and Lauren Yoon collected 6-1, 6-1 and 7-5, 6-2 decisions. The freshman tandem of Thomas and Stephanie Shulman added wins for Emory at the fifth and sixth matches with Thomas notching her team-leading fourth straight win with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at fifth singles and Shulman posting the 6-0, 6-3 victory at the sixth position.

Emory (1-1) is back at the WoodPEC Saturday afternoon with a match against regional foe Sewanee. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM in Atlanta.
