Alexa Goetz Earns Final UAA Athlete of the Week Award for 2019-20 Season

Freshman Alexa Goetz has been named the University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week as announced Monday afternoon by the league office. It is the second weekly honor she has received this season.

In the final week of the truncated spring schedule due to COVID-19, Goetz helped the No.-3 ranked Eagles to a 2-0 record against No.-5 ranked Carnegie Mellon and Division I foe Lehigh University during Emory's spring break trip to Florida. Goetz picked up a win at third singles (6-4, 6-1) vs. the Tartans Tuesday afternoon before winning 6-1, 6-3 at second singles against the Mountain Hawks Wednesday morning. In addition, Goetz teamed with classmate Katelyn Thomas for two wins at the third doubles position, posting decisions of 8-3 vs. CMU and 8-5 vs. Lehigh.

For the year, Goetz and Thomas went an unblemished 9-0 in doubles action while in singles competition, Goetz finished her rookie year tied for the team-lead with sophomore Emma Cartledge with 15 victories (15-5) and was 6-2 during the dual match portion of the schedule.

Emory, as a team, went 6-3 during the abbreviated season, reaching the ITA Division III National Indoor Team Championship match for the fourth straight year.
