The Emory University women's tennis team returned to the courts Sunday afternoon as the team opposed Georgia Southern University. GSU came away with the 6-1 decision in the matchup between the Eagles.
In doubles, Georgia Southern took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Emory opened the match with a win by Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Katie Chang, 6-1, on court one before GSU pairings defeated Katelyn Thomas and Ana Cristina Perez, 6-3, on court three and Stephanie Taylor and Christina Watson on court two, 7-5.
For the singles lineup, Georgia Southern posted wins at sixth singles over Alexa Goetz (6-1, 6-0), the third spot against Defne Olcay (6-3, 6-2) and at the second position over Watson (6-1, 6-3) to clinch the match win.
Rounding out the match were decisions at the first, fourth and fifth singles positions. Jessica Fatemi won her first set 6-2 on court five before dropping the next two sets 6-4, 10-8. On court four, Thomas fell 6-4, 6-4 to her counterpart and on court one, Gonzalez-Rico secured the Eagles' point in the final decided match of the afternoon, rallying from one set down to win 3-6, 7-6, 10-7.
