Emory University senior Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico was named the University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week as announced Monday afternoon. It is the 11th time in her career she has earned the weekly honor.
Gonzalez-Rico highlighted the Emory women's tennis team in the Eagles' 6-1 loss to Division I's Georgia Southern University Sunday afternoon. In doubles, she teamed with classmate Katie Chang to win 6-1 at the No. 1 position. In singles, she closed out the match by rallying for a three-set win at the No. 1 spot, defeating Paula Boixader 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7.
For the season, Gonzalez-Rico is an unblemished 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles with Chang.
The Eagles continue the season this Saturday afternoon with a road match against Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. First serve is scheduled for 3:30pm.
