Emory Women's Tennis Shuts Out WashU, 9-0

The Emory University women's tennis team closed out the remaining portion of the scheduled regular season Sunday afternoon, taking down conference foe Washington University in St. Louis by a 9-0 margin. The match was played at the Adams Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, TN.

For doubles, the Eagles recorded a pair of 8-3 victories by Stephanie Taylor and Christina Watson at the No. 1 position and Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Katie Chang at the No. 2 position. The win saw Watson and Taylor improve to 5-3 together in the spring while Gonzalez-Rico and Chang stayed unbeaten, moving to 7-0. On the third court, Lauren Yoon and Katelyn Thomas picked up their first win playing together, earning an 8-4 decision for the doubles sweep.

In singles, Emory collected straight set wins on four of the six courts with Gonzalez-Rico defeating her counterpart 6-4, 6-2, Taylor winning 6-1, 6-2 at third singles, Defne Olcay scoring a 6-1, 7-6 (3) triumph and Yoon on the sixth line 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Watson and Thomas added wins for the Eagles, needing three sets to do so. At second singles, Watson rallied after a second set defeat to post the 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 decision and at the fourth spot, Thomas won in a third set tiebreak 6-3, 6-7 (1), 10-6.

Emory, now 5-3 overall and 5-0 against non-Division I/NAIA opponents, is scheduled to be off until the NCAA tournament gets underway on May 14th.
