Women's Tennis Sees Four Selected to NCAA Individual Championships

Four members of the Emory University women's tennis team were selected to the individual championships as announced by the NCAA late Wednesday night.

In the singles draw, senior Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and junior Christina Watson will represent the Eagles in the draw. The duo has led the team in singles during the spring, tying for the team lead with five victories. Gonzalez-Rico, 5-2 at the No. 1 position, makes her third appearances in the singles bracket. She advanced to the Round of 32 as a freshman before being crowned the singles national champion as a sophomore. Watson, 5-3 on the year and 4-3 at the No. 2 spot, earns her first NCAA singles selection.

Gonzalez-Rico and Watson will also compete in the doubles draw as Emory will have two doubles tandems in the competition: Gonzalez-Rico and senior Katie Chang and Watson and senior Stephanie Taylor. Gonzalez-Rico and Chang are currently unbeaten in the spring, winning all seven of their matches. Watson and Taylor posted a 4-3 overall record across seven matches in the regular season including a 3-0 record when playing on the No. 1 line.

The individual championships will take place from May 28-30 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, TN.
