Emory Women's Tennis Wins Two Draws at Georgia Southern Shootout

The Emory University women's tennis team made a strong showing at the Georgia Southern Shootout in Statesboro, GA this weekend. Due to rain, the tournament was shortened to a two-day event placing all entrants into a four player/team mini-draw.  

Sophomore Ana Cristina Perez and junior Stephanie Shulman led the charge in their respective singles brackets. Perez defeated Mercer's Naya Tillet 6-3, 6-2 before besting Davidson's Mira Gladstone in the final of the White D Draw 6-1, 6-2. Shulman prevailed over Davidson's Linden Patterson 6-4, 6-2 and went on to the finals to thrash Georgia State's Pragnya Kumar 6-4, 6-3 in the GATA E Draw. 

Perez and Shulman elected to donate their draw winnings to Nuestro Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic and The Jade Foundation in Chesterland, Ohio. 

The Eagles also saw singles wins from senior Christina Watson in the GATA A Draw against University of Tennessee's Emma Van Hee 6-3, 7-5. Senior Lauren Yoon bounced back for a thrilling three-set victory under the lights 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 on her last day as a 21-year-old over Georgia Southern's Hannah Daniel. Freshman Arya Dudipala also had a three-set victory in the Eagle A draw against University of Tennessee Chattanooga's Jada Young 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.  

In doubles, the Eagles had a strong second day with several notable wins. Perez and Yoon overcame Georgia Southern's Daniel and Wagemaker 7-6 (4). Sophomore Sam Falcon and senior Jessica Fatemi triumphed over Kennesaw State's Cantrell and Gottiparthy 6-3 and lastly, Dudipala and Shulman earned a victory over Georgia Southern's Goines and Hijos 6-3.  

Next up for the Eagles will be the ITA Cup this weekend, Oct. 14-17, in Rome, GA.
