Eliza McPherron Claims ITA Cup Division III Singles Title

Emory University freshman Eliza McPherron captured the ITA Cup Division III Singles National Championship Saturday afternoon in a thrilling three-setter at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.

McPherron struggled to find her way in the first set, dropping it 3-6 to Middlebury's Sahana Raman in just under an hour. The two freshmen were going game for game in the second before McPherron surged ahead, coming back from 4-5 to win three straight games and push the match to a third set. She continued her dominance through the completion of the match, as she dropped only two games in the final set, finishing the match with a score of 3-6 7-5 6-2.

The Weston, MA native is the eighth ITA Division III singles champion in program history and the third Eagle to win at the last five ITA Cups, joining Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico (2018) and current assistant coach Bridget Harding (2016).

The Eagles will conclude the fall schedule the weekend of October 29-31 with the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, SC.
