Eliza McPherron to play in ITA Cup Division III Singles Championship

Freshman Eliza McPherron led the charge at the ITA Cup in Rome, GA this morning as she battled out a three-set victory over Pomona-Pitzer’s Nina Ye to advance to the Division III singles championship match. McPherron will face Middlebury’s Sahana Raman in the finals tomorrow at 11am.

Both the Emory men’s and women’s teams saw their doubles runs in Rome come to an end. For the men, Andrew Esses and Sahil Raina beat Aney and Budde of Gustavus-Adolphus (7-6(4), 7-5) before falling in the semi-final match to CMS’s pairing of Martin and Arimilli, 6-3- 6-2. Their teammates, Samuel Dean and Santiago Suarez, ended their day on a high note with a straight set victory over UW-Whitewater after falling to Case Western Reserve’s Hopper and Powell earlier in the day.

On the women’s side, the third-seeded pairing of Alexa Goetz and Xuanjin Li fell to Carnegie Mellon’s Givone and Zhao in straight sets before losing a near comeback to Tufts’ Rigby and Christensen 6-3 7-5. In the consolation bracket, Jessica Fatemi and Emma Cartledge advanced to the second round with a convincing 6-3 6-2 win over Whitman before falling to CMS’s Lee and Juan, 6-3 6-4.
