Women's Tennis Advances to Regional Final with 5-1 Win Over Washington and Lee

The Emory University women's tennis team defeated Washington and Lee with a 5-1 decision on Saturday morning to advance to the regional final.

The No. 7 ranked Eagles pick up their 12th win of the season and look to claim the regional victory in team play against either Sewanee or Case Western Reserve on Sunday. The match is set to begin at 10 am. 

Emory couldn't have asked for a better start to the match earning a win in all three doubles matches. Junior Ana Cristina Perez and freshman Emily Kantrovitz took an 8-1 victory in the No. 1 spot. The duo of freshman Iris Berman and sophomore Eliza McPherron claimed another point for the Eagles with their 8-2 decision on court three. Senior Alexa Goetz and freshman Izzy Antanavicius earned the third point with an 8-5 win on two.

In singles, Perez continued to be a force for the Eagles taking her singles match with a 6-2, 6-0 decision on court three to earn the fourth point for Emory. Junior Ilayda Baykan secured the fifth point for Emory to secure the win with her 7-5, 6-3 decision. Senior Stephanie Shulman sat in a tie on court one before the end of the match while Kantrovitz was held at an 0-6, 6-4, 1-3 score on two.
