Women’s Tennis Begins NCAA Individual Championships; Perez/Kantrovitz Advance to Quarterfinals

The Emory University women's tennis team opened the NCAA Individual Championships on Friday morning with the Eagles competing in both singles and doubles matches at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Junior Ana Cristina Perez and freshman Emily Kantrovitz rolled out an impressive doubles match to start their run as they defeated Alisha Chulan and Nikolina Batoshvili of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday. The duo will face Olivia Soffe and Matia Cristiani of Babson in the round of eight not before 1:00 pm.

Kantrovitz, initially an alternate who was announced to the singles draw after the bracket was announced on Thursday afternoon, competed against MIT's Sarah Pertsemlidis early this morning to kick off the day and fell with a 6-3, 6-4 decision. She finished her rookie season with a team-leading 19 wins and just eight losses in singles.

Senior Stephanie Shulman also competed in the singles competition for the Eagles and was down 6-5 in the first set to Claremont Mudd Scripps' Alisha Chulani before having to withdraw from the competition due to injury. With the loss, she concludes her Emory career with a 38-23 record, 16 of those wins coming this season alone.
